Understanding Absolute Truth

In the often-confusing modern age, we often hear terms such as ‘personal truth’ flung around in conversation about all manner of different topics. Yet reaching far beyond this concept is the wider and more accurate view of absolute truth – explored here to help you understand exactly what this means for both you and your reality.

Interpretations of Truth

There are many different opinions as to what constitutes truth, but it is a necessity to understand that truth itself can’t be logically argued against without falling into a web of mistruth.

The vast plethora of knowledge at our fingertips means that truth is far too often confused with opinion – yet all arguments and discussions require us to acknowledge the fundamental truths of what it is we are trying to see, state or understand.

Relativism is one of many schools of thought which argue against the existence of absolute truth, saying instead that absolutism – including the concept of absolute truth – goes against nature and so instead each individual should simply do, speak and think as feels fundamentally ‘right’ to them.

Many philosophers have spent years considering where truth really lies – and considering that each viewpoint is equally as valid. Yet where does this leave reality?

Defining Absolute Truth

We can understand absolute truth as devoid of personal opinion or context – the concept simply ‘is’, and therefore regardless of how one feels about this truth, it remains accurate and untied by interpretation or perspective.

Philosophically speaking, this can be likened to an ideal as defined by Plato – the source truth hidden behind individual or collectivist belief. Many disciplines are highly critical of absolute truth, particularly in evolving areas such as science.

However, mathematics is another discipline where the opposite is considered – truth, absolute truth, is vital as a premise.

Preserving Absolute Truth

Spiritual practitioners and theorists alike are committed to preserving the concept of absolute truth, ensuring its sanctity despite changing attitudes and social shifts.

This is a tough task as it requires the continued repetition of fundamental and often ancient truths, which acknowledge that beyond interpretation and opinion, absolute truth stands alone and is the only thing which will truly stand the ultimate test of time.

When all opinion and thought has fallen away, absolute truth will remain – it was there at the very start, and will be there at the very end. Understanding this is key to understanding reality itself.
